around town: cakes and bouquets event

The girls and I had a great opperunity to showcase some of our visions at a new annual event called Cakes and Bouquets put on by Charleston Bridal Week. The concept of this week of bridal bliss is to showcase great pairings of things for the big day. Truth be told, we were ecstatic to get paired with all the tasty treats. We had our dear friend JB McCabe out with us to photograph some of our ideas. As designers, we were delighted to take full freedom in ideas and decided to have 2 bouquets for each season of the year. We hope you enjoy our work and visit us at facebook for more pictures from the event. Click here: Tiger Lily Weddings

Cinco de Mayo: Couple's Shower Ideas

Happy Cinco de Mayo!
In honor of this amazing holiday, we wanted to put together a few ideas on how to have an outdoor couple's shower. There is something so incredible about the bold colors, flavors, food, and drinks. For anyone looking for ideas to give friends for hosting a shower or putting a spin on the rehearsal dinner, here are a few tips from the girls at Tiger Lily Weddings.

Step 1: Decoration and Design
With a Mexican theme, the more color the better. If you have an available backyard, all you need are a few of these flags, cut outs, lights, and some great seating.
You can use apothecary containers and fill with lemon and limes as well as some bold colors in floral. Here are a few examples of ranges in color you have.
Here is a great inexpensive option with paper fans: go to this site to buy. click here

Step 2: Food and Drink:
One of the best things about a Mexican theme is how little money you can spend on food. You can get great prices for a local restaurant to cater or make a bunch of small appetizers with quesadillas, chips and salsa, guacamole, and queso. You can also do skewers in all meats and seafood. Have some fun with a Mexican chocolate cake. Here is a recipe to follow for that. Mexican Chocolate Cake

For drink, here is a twist on an old favorite: Click here for site.
Blood Orange-Jalapeno Margaritas (adapted from Kara Newman, Spice & Ice: 60 Tongue-Tingling Cocktails)
makes two drinks
4 ounces jalapeño-infused silver tequila (*see recipe below)
3 ounces fresh-squeezed blood orange juice
1 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice
3 ounces Cointreau (I scaled it back to 2 ounces)
[*To make jalapeño infusion: Slice up a fresh jalapeño pepper and allow it to steep in 1 cup (I used just half a cup) of tequila for 2 hours. Taste to check the heat level, and continue to steep if a stronger infusion is desired (I left the slices in for a full 4 hours). Once infusing process is complete, remove the slices by pouring the mixture through a fine-meshed strainer.]
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a cocktail glass. Optional garnish: salt the rim of the glass.

All you need to throw this event over the top, is mexican dresses, sombreros, and of course, a few mustaches!

Posted Notes: To Honor the MOB and MOG this upcoming Mother's Day

One of my favorite things about a wedding (sad as this may sound ) is the ability to have gift ideas for a couple of years. The first year you are giving out engagement pictures, the planning year you are prepping the important mama’s with things for the festivities, and the first year into marriage you can give the gift of framed memories. It’s pretty amazing when you know what you want to do.

In honor of next week and our mother hens, I wanted to share a few great gift ideas with our current bride-to-be audience.

engagement story: amyleigh and danny

Boy meets girl. Girl and boy fall in love. Boy asks girl for her hand with a little help from a friend name Big Steve….the dog
This charming couple were getting ready for dinner plans and Danny let Amyleigh know Big Steve ( their ever growing bull mastiff) was at a new beach location with a friend where dogs were welcomed. Obviously the news came as a huge relief to Amyleigh to have babysitting help as she continued getting dressed, but when the time came to leave for dinner, Danny announced that Big Steve needed to be retrieved. As they made their way out to the beach, Amyleigh saw something hanging on the pups neck. When Big Steve started galloping towards Amyleigh, she was able to read the signs’ lettering that said “Mom will you marry Dad?” with red daisies tied to ends. The only thing that could possibly make this moment more adorable was the fact that Danny hired a photographer, Ben Williams, to capture everything.
Big Steve
Needless to say Miss Amyleigh said yes to the proposal and their Save the Date will go down in my books as a top favorite. I absolutely love when a couples personality and life shine through in their wedding festivities and I can guarantee that the big day will be no different that the proposal. Congratulations to Amyleigh and Danny and can’t wait for November!

a sweet treat

Recently Taylor was approached to decorate with a out of the ordinary inspiration. The client was surprising a dear friend with a theme straight out of the taste buds….Candy!
With the idea of incorporating floral design and the birthday girl’s love of sweets, Taylor created eight candy cake centerpieces for each of the tables along with a gorgeous apothecary container display full of treats. The linens were done with festive turquoise and purple ribbons tying off the bubble gum pink napkins and each had a tucked in swirl sucker to drool over. Since the party was adult range, we filled jars with rock candy to include in the cocktails. We loved the opportunity to do something unique like this and so grateful to see  people exploring their passions as ways to throw a good party. Congrats Taylor!

Weddings In Charleston

Wedding season is in full bloom here in Charleston.
Here is a quick snap shot of all the fabolous places we we're this weekend.  French Hugenot, Mills House, Trinity United Methodist, The Wickliffe House, Country Club of Charleston and The Marriott Hotel.
Hydrangeas, Hydrangeas, Hydrangeas this is the quintessential flower for southern weddings.  We recommend touches of hydrangeas here and there, while incorporating other types of flowers to create texture and interest bouquets.  Local made palmetto/sweet grass rose is absolutely precious for this ring bearer.
The historic churches located in Charleston are gorgeous.  With all the ornate details, you really only need a pop of color at the altar and let the church speak for itself.

Cassique Garden Rehearsal Dinner

What a beautiful sunny day to have a rehearsal dinner out in the fabulous garden area at Cassique Club House on Kiawah Island.  We wanted to create a intimate setting by draping fabric to close off the area.  Finished with hanging bronze lanterns that will create a warm glow all night long. Finished with clusters of flower cups placed throughout the arches. To continue the rustic theme, we incorporated rustic farm tables with bright and bold floral centerpieces for a contrast.

Confederate Home and Going Garden

Ashley and I had the pleasure of taking a site visit at the historic Confederate House yesterday afternoon in downtown Charleston. Walking from the street entrance into the front door, you are immediately exposed to the depth of the interior structure along with the incredible gardens to the left. There is a serene feeling immediately upon entering the courtyard and you truly feel the preservation of the building with the community, birds, and slight whisper of the wind between the fig and oak trees.

We have a wedding coming up here soon, so be looking for more pictures as we get the ceremony set up. The garden fountain picture indicates the center focal point for the event and we are hoping to accentuate the existing flow of greenery by mirroring the garden design in the ceremony floral. Stay tuned....
